Hundreds of family and friends gather in Birmingham for funeral of tragic youngster Leo Ross

Mourners are gathering in Birmingham for the funeral of a 12-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in January.

Leo Ross was attacked on Scribers Lane, Hall Green whilst walking home from school on January 21.

Hundreds of family, friends and members of the community attended Christ Church, Yardley Wood to pay tribute before his coffin will be carried to Robin Hood Cemetery and Crematorium.

His school, Christ Church Secondary Academy, is closed for the day, the funeral cortege passed the gates on the way to the church.

After his murder, Leo's family released a tribute saying: "We want everyone to know what an amazing, kind, loving boy Leo was.

"Not only has Leo’s life been taken, all of our lives have as well.

"Leo will be truly missed by all of us. He was loved so much by everyone."

Hall Green South Ward councillor Tim Huxtable, who is due to attend the funeral said it would be a sombre - but special - occasion.

He said: "I think it will be a very fitting tribute to Leo, and it will bring closure to this stage," he said.

"But I hope there will be a really positive legacy that can be left in the local community."

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with murder and is due in court next month for a plea hearing.
