Major investigation launched after man and woman shot near Molineux

A man and woman were shot in Whitmore Reans sparking extra police patrols in the area today (Friday, February 28).

A major investigation has been launched by West Midlands Police after two people were injured following the shooting on Thursday night, near Wolverhampton Wanderers' Molineux stadium.

Wolverhampton Police posted on social media: "Officers attended Staveley Road at just before 9.15pm and found a woman in her 30s with injuries which were treated by paramedics.

"She was taken to hospital for further checks and has since been discharged. A man in his 20s later attended hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life-changing. Investigators are continuing with enquiries today to identify and trace whoever is responsible and bring them before the courts."

CCTV from the area is being retrieved and reviewed and officers have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries. There will be more police officers in the area as these investigations continue with further patrols over the coming days to reassure residents.

Wolverhampton Local Inspector Chris Turner said: "We understand that an incident like this causes concern for many in our communities. As we work to bring whoever is responsible to justice, our local officers are also out in the area to offer reassurance so please do speak with them."
