Teenager 'smashed up' Wolverhampton Crown Court cells while awaiting sentencing for a wounding offence

A 17 year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons has been charged with criminal damage.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named, was being sentenced at Wolverhampton Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday, February 26) for wounding with intent and possession 'of a bladed article concerning a violent attack in Stourbridge.

The hearing was supposed to be finished by lunch but after details of the crime and mitigation were heard, the sentencing was delayed until after lunch. 

However, after the hour lunch period, Justice Michael Chambers KC was informed the defendant had been charged with criminal damage.
