Headteacher Claire Chandler has worked at Beacon Primary School in New Invention, Willenhall, for more than 11 years and said it is special in many ways.

Mrs Chandler, who has been head for two years, explained: "It's unique, we do so many different things so everyone has a chance to shine. We are just one big family and everybody does care about each other.

"If someone is off-kilter for one day, people notice and they go out of their way to do something about it.

"We are special in so many different ways. It's a wonderful work place to work. Its friendly, there's laughter, there's smiling - you go round the corridors and children are having fun.

"Behaviour is good but [pupils] have their own characters and they are allowed to express that in a sensible, controlled way. It is really a nice environment.”

Last summer, the school - which forms part of The Lighthouse Federation - was hailed as delivering exceptional education with a silver award for ‘Making a Difference - Primary School of the Year’ at the Pearson National Teaching Awards 2024.

It was also praised by Ofsted inspectors in April of last year who found it be 'Outstanding' - an improvement on its previous visit by the education watchdog in 2022 where it was ranked 'Good'.

In their report, inspectors described the school as being "an oasis of aspiration, opportunity, curiosity and enthusiasm".
