West Bromwich MP Sarah Coombes says drivers are using ‘ghost’ or ‘stealth’ number plates to get away with dangerous driving.
In the West Midlands more than 1,000 people are killed or seriously injured each year. The MP is raising the issue in the House of Commons next week with a Ten Minute Rule Bill.
Ghost licence plates are a type of illegal reflective licence plate that cannot be read by police camera technology.
Number plates can also be cloned, made unreadable or altered relatively easily without detection by the authorities, leading many experts to speculate that the use of dodgy number plates is more widespread than initially thought.
