The shock comes as more than 20 chicken carcasses were seemingly dumped on the pavement of Gorge Road, Sedgley, near Bilston, on Thursday morning (February 20).

The chickens, all of which were stripped of their meat, have since been cleaned up by Dudley Council's proactive cleaning teams, however, many were left wondering as to how the fowl ended up on the road.

Builder and bricklayer, Joseph Gough, who was working in the area at the time the chickens were dumped, said that the chicken dumping culprit was a mysterious blue van that seemed to have 'left its tailgate unlocked'.

After the area was cleaned, Joseph, 19, from Kinver, said: "All of the chicken's have gone now, the council were really fast with clearing it up, which is a bit of a surprise.

"I managed to catch images of the van on the CCTV cameras, it looks like a blue truck that must have had a loose tailgate, it looks like it came off down the road."

When asked if he thinks the incident was another example of fly-tipping in the area, he said 'no' and that he thinks 'the driver just didn't realise'.

Joseph continued: "I don't think it was fly-tipping. It was a bit weird that all the chickens were stripped of their meat, they were just bones.

"We were actually going to clean it up ourselves because it was a bit disgusting and people were having to swerve past them, but the council got there first. It's just strange that it happened."

While the fowl have since been cleared, confused residents were unsure as to the events that led to the chickens being discarded, with many taking to social media to find answers.

On Facebook, the Spotted Brierley Hill and Local's group asked: "Any idea what was left on the footpath of Horge Road going into Sedgley, outside the allotments?

"Apparently it has now been cleared, but it was very unsightly."

Dudley Council and West Midlands Police have been approached for more information.
