Tyjon Cogger and Saabir Mohamed were found guilty of firearms offences after the victim, aged in his 20s, was shot in the leg at the Cape Hill Retail Park car park on October 23, 2023.

Police were alerted by hospital staff after the victim was dropped off by associates in an Audi at Birmingham's City Hospital with gunshot wounds to his lower leg and foot.

He refused to talk to officers about what had happened but after trawling CCTV footage, police were able to trace the Audi back to the scene of the shooting.

CCTV captured the Audi entering the car park along with a second vehicle. Shortly after, a Ford Kuga, driven by Cogger, arrived on the scene.

It had been travelling around the area with no obvious destination and it's believed the occupants had been looking for the victim and his associates, West Midlands Police said.

Mohamed could be seen on CCTV getting out of the car and firing the sawn-off shotgun twice.

Police studied hours of CCTV footage and studied telecommunications data which led them to identify Cogger and Mohamed.

Cogger, aged 23 and of Church Avenue in Amblecote, Dudley, and Mohamed, aged 26 and of Thomas Crescent, Smethwick, were arrested.

At Birmingham Crown Court on February 13, Cogger was sentenced to 18 years and six months in prison, while Mohamed was jailed for 20 years and eight months.

'These men are dangerous'

Detective Inspector Francis Nock, from the West Midlands Police Major Crime Unit, said: “Officers worked extremely hard to piece together what happened and spent hundreds of hours reviewing CCTV footage.

“It is down to their hard work that we identified Cogger and Mohamed and brought them to justice.

“These men are dangerous and are now rightfully behind bars, making our streets a safer place.”
