Deakin-Jones Family Butchers, which had been based at Sedgley's Concord Market till its recent closure, is run by 36-year-old Nathan Jones, who has been in the butcher trade since the age of 17.

Mr Jones said he was really happy to be able to bring his business to the town where he learned his craft and also honour his late mentor.

He said: "Brierley Hill is the place I started my butcher training at Walter Smiths back when I was 17, and it's also where my mentor Johnny Hill was so well known when working at Marsh & Baxter’s and later at Walter Smiths.

"Johnny sadly died just before Christmas, which to me was a sign to come to Brierley Hill.

"I'm hoping to follow in his footsteps as a proper butcher providing great meat and great service to customers in the area."

The arrival of Deakin-Jones Family Butchers at Brierley Hill Market Hall was welcomed to the market by Brierley Hill & Wordsley South councillors Adam Davies and Wayne Little.

Councillor Davies said: "It's great to welcome Nathan and his business to Brierley Hill, marking the much-called-for return of a butcher’s stall at the market.

"Nathan clearly has a passion for what he does and prides himself on being a 'proper butcher' which is great to see.

"His business is a great addition which will hopefully encourage extra footfall into both the market and the town."

Councillor Little said: "Shoppers are really pleased to have a butcher's stall back at the market, especially after the recent investments that have improved the market's high street frontage.

"We wish Nathan all the best and hope local people get behind him as he sets about establishing his business in the town."
