Several suffered severe damage during the incident which was reported shortly before 5.45pm as a result including Lye Tyres, Club 2000 Fishing Tackle Warehouse and Chatsworth House.

In his first report to councillors new Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuhill praised fire crews for their efforts in bringing the huge blaze under control after nearby residents were forced to doors and windows closed due to the smell and fumes.

Mr Tuhill told councillors: "At a factory fire in Stourbridge last week 60 firefighters were brought in and the crews saved four adjoining businesses. The fire was started accidentally due to a business burning debris and leaving it unattended."

He added that firefighters were due to be debriefed over the incident.
