St Matthews Police Team posted pictures of them using the cameras this week.
The team tweeted: "In the heat of the moment, officers from St Matthews Team 3 have been out today with our thermal imaging camera, reacting to intelligence from our community, searching for any illegal cannabis farms.
"The heat is on!"
Criminals have also been known to use thermal imaging cameras attached to drones to find crop houses which they then violently rob.
