Claire Powell will take on the role at the new John Taylor School in Rugeley which will welcome its first pupils in September.

It is set to be the first all-purpose school in Staffordshire, catering for pupils from aged three to 18 years old and is being developed on the site of the former Rugeley power stations.

The school will be run by John Taylor MAT, an established academy trust which runs 17 primary and secondary schools in the county.

Rugeley John Taylor School is planned to open in two phases starting with secondary, with 150 places available for Year 7 pupils from September.

The primary phase of the school will follow a year later, with nursery and reception admissions in September 2026.

Newly appointed headteacher Claire Powell has more than 20 years of experience teaching in secondary schools across the West Midlands after graduating from the University of Birmingham with a degree in Sports Science and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Physical Education.
