Birmingham Cross City line delays and cancellations with replacement buses for Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield - here's why

Rail passengers have been warned to face disruption and delays on services on the Birmingham Cross City line after a points failure at New Street.

West Midlands Railway announced the points failure at Birmingham New Street station at around 10.54am on Friday morning.

The rail provider said that services on the Cross City line, which runs from Lichfield to Bromsgrove and Redditch, would be subject to delays and cancellations.

It also announced that rail replacement bus services were being requested to run between Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield, as well as between Longbridge and Redditch and Longbridge and Bromsgrove, and disruption was expected to last until 12pm.

A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: "Due to a points failure at Birmingham New Street, urgent repairs are being undertaken and we anticipate services to be delayed or revised.

"Road transport has been requested to run between Lichfield and Sutton and between Longbridge and Redditch and Longbridge and Bromsgrove. 

"We estimate the bus shuttle service to commence within the hour.

"Disruption is expected to last until around 12pm today."
