At the start of the week, the tree was still standing proud in the town's market place.
Now all that remains is a stump after council workers finally felled it yesterday (Wednesday) - 82 days after its lights were due to have been officially switched on.
Well Roy Wood did Wish it Could be Christmas Every Day.

The switch -on ceremony, on November 23, was itself postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
It is understood that the delay was down to problems removing and disconnecting the tree's lights, with workers tied up on emergency repairs to street lights and other more pressing work.
The lights were removed this week, and the tree has now finally been removed from pride of place. Just in time for Valentine's Day.
