Arrests after driver dies as a result of two-car crash in Birmingham

A driver has died after a two-car collision in Birmingham resulting in two arrests.

The collision involving BMW and a Honda happened in Stratford Road in Hall Green on Tuesday night at about 7.15. One of the vehicles struck a tree.

West Midlands Police said the occupants of the BMW fled the scene and have since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after they attended a police station later on.

The force stated: "Two men have been arrested after a man sadly died following a collision in Hall Green. 

"We were called shortly before 7.15pm last night to a collision involving two vehicles, a BMW and a Honda, on Stratford Road.

"A man in his 50s, the driver of the Honda, was found seriously injured and despite best efforts of emergency services, died in hospital a short time later.

"The occupants of the BMW fled the scene. Later in the evening two men presented at a police station in relation to the collision.

"They have both been detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. One of the men, a 19-year-old has been taken to hospital for health checks and the second man, an 18-year-old, has been taken into to custody while our inquiries continue."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Upon arrival, ambulance staff found the driver of the first car in a critical condition. They quickly began administering advanced trauma care to him at the scene.  

“He was conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic travelling on board for continued treatment en route.

“No further patients required treatment.”
