The Friends of the White Lion group stood in solidarity at the doors of the former White Lion pub which has been earmarked for auction on February 13.
The former pub, which sits on the corner of Sandwell Street, Walsall, was a meeting place for many in the community, with the group saying that they 'don't oppose the sale', but want the building to be 'brought back into use for the community' and 'its heritage respected'.
Talking at the pub, Mark Webster, who has been the chair of the Friends of The White Lion group for three years, said: "We aren't opposed to the sale, we just want the building to be bought back into use for the community.
"I have to say, we aren't against high-quality accommodation for people, but to fit 13 living accommodations into this location, they'd have to build on the garden, they'd have to build in the cellars and there would be no parking. We don't believe it would be an asset for this neighbourhood."
