City and town centre pubs are venues which have to fight a bit harder to bring customers in.

This is due to the number of bars and pubs around a concentrated area, all providing a similar type of service and having to think about the experience people can have as and when they come through the doors.

Within Wolverhampton city centre is a pub which has been a feature of the city since the 1880s and has lived several lives over the last 140 years before being restored and reopened as the Hogshead in 1998.

The pub on Stafford Street is a large 19th-century traditional city-centre building with an attractive brick terracotta exterior and has a stained-glass window above the entrance which displays the original name, the Vine.

Owned by Stonegate Group, it underwent a massive six-figure investment in January which saw it redecorated with brand-new state-of-the-art lighting installed throughout, as well as new booths, more televisions, and an updated frontage, including a new sign which pays homage to Wolverhampton rock band, Slade, with the new colour scheme representing the glam rock fashion movement of the time.

General manager Sarah Lathwood has been in the role since November, but has been involved with the pub since 2016 when she started work behind that bar, and said its place as a Social Pub and Kitchen Pub made it a place for everyone.
