The commissioner was at the Midland Langar Seva Society (MLSS) headquarters in Walsall on Wednesday to talk about the new youth programmes being launched across the region.

The youth programmes have been set up in churches and faith hubs to help boost the wellbeing of our young people and reduce violence.

A total of £100,000 has been invested by the Violence Reduction Partnership’s faith alliance across 4 locations in Birmingham, Walsall and Dudley and provide activities such as boxing, music and basic life skills, with the MLSS the safe space in Walsall.

Whilst at the faith hub, adult mentors will help guide the teenagers and young adults away from violence.

Training for young people is also in development aimed at helping them become advocates for violence reduction in faith settings.

Mr Foster spoke about the plans, the set up of the faith alliance and what the safe spaces would entail, as well as saying that investing in these initiatives was crucial to addressing and preventing youth crime.
