A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of making threats with a bladed article after an incident which saw a man carrying a machete in broad daylight.

West Midlands Police confirmed they had arrested a 17-year-old boy from an address in Wolverhampton on Tuesday morning and taken him into custody on suspicion of making threats with a bladed article in a public place.

The arrest follows on from a report of a man being seen with a machete on Merrick Road in Wednesfield on Monday afternoon in an incident which saw East Park Academy locked down for 20 minutes and extra officers out on patrol in the area.

The force has said that officers have remained on patrol in the area to offer and provide further reassurance to the community and asked for anyone with further information to get in touch.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of making threats with a bladed article in a public place following an incident in Wolverhampton.

"He was arrested this morning from an address in the city and taken into custody where he remains as we continue with our enquiries.

"It follows a report that a male had been seen with a machete in Merrick Road, Wolverhampton, at around 3.15pm yesterday (3 Feb).

"We continue to have officers on patrol in and around the area today (Tues) to offer and provide further reassurance to the community.
