The council has now confirmed its response to the inspectors examining the local plan - a response that will go before its cabinet on Wednesday, February 12, for formal approval.

It comes after the authority's local plan process was thrown into chaos last month, when inspectors outlined a series of major concerns with the proposal.

They even warned that the plan may need to be scrapped if the council is not able to address the issues.

The local plan is one of the most important documents any council produces - setting out where houses and business developments can be built for every town and village within its boundaries.

Without an up-to-date local plan developers are more likely to be successful with 'speculative' applications for sites.

The letter put forward for approval accepts and seeks to address a number of concerns outlined by the inspectors - but also rejects some, and asks for inspectors to reconsider whether they are required.

The council said it still hopes to get the plan adopted by 'mid 2026', but doing so will require going ahead with a number of potentially controversial proposals.
