Patricia Johnston took on the post at St Anne's Catholic Primary School in Streetly seven years ago - and says a lot has changed since.

Parts of the building including its main entrance have been transformed and improvements have been made to classrooms, thanks to the help of parents' donations and just over £1 million of funding.

The biggest change according to Mrs Johnston, however, has been to the curriculum.

Pupils at St Anne's benefit from learning a range of skills to help ready them for their futures. This includes learning how to ride a bike, play instruments, or even how to start a fire at the forest school.

The headteacher said that while the Blackwood Road school generally finishes in the top five percent in the country for its Maths and English results, offering a "balanced" curriculum is important.

Mrs Johnston explained: "Here at St Anne's, I am really lucky because I have music specialists who come in, my arts teacher has a Fine Arts degree and she teaches art from Year 1 to Year 6, I have a native French speaker who teaches French across the year groups.
