Cross City rail line from Birmingham New Street to Lichfield closed after fourth lorry collides with Erdington bridge in one month

Trains between Birmingham and Lichfield have been halted after a vehicle collided with a bridge in Erdington - the fourth incident of its kind this month.

The train line between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley has been shut due to a lorry colliding with a railway bridge on Summer Road in Erdington. 

It is the fourth incident of its kind since the beginning of January - two lorries crashed into the bridge within hours of each other on January 7, with another collision taking place on January 3.

National Express services are accepting passengers between Birmingham New Street and Sutton Coldfield, with rail replacement buses taking on passengers between Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield Trent Valley. 

West Midlands Railway has warned that services will be delayed and cancelled as a result of the incident.
