This year marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, which was the largest Nazi concentration camp, and the 30th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia.

Sandwell Council set a theme for the memorial day, ‘For a Better Future’, saying it hopes to 'encourage us to explore the various ways we can all contribute to creating a more positive future by challenging prejudice'.

The hope is to create an opportunity for people to 'come together, learn about the past and more recent injustices, and act towards building a better future for us all'.
