Jack and Tricia Watton are celebrating 60 years of marriage today (January 25) and have looked back on their years together, sharing the secret to six decades.

The pair, who grew up within a mile of each other in Gornal, first met in April 1958. Jack, who was 18 at the time, was part of a youth club at Ruiton Parish Hall and was pals with Tricia's friend Lorraine.

When the youth club's dance night rolled around, Tricia, who was 14, asked Lorraine if she could go along - little did Tricia know she would meet her future husband that night.

The pair met again at Sunday school at the youth club, and a friendship blossomed. When Tricia turned 18 in 1963, they got engaged.

"It was nothing fancy," Jack said.

Jack, a Tipton Grammar School alum, had a hard time trying to find a job, but eventually landed one at Gibbons of Dudley Ltd and studied to become a chartered company secretary. In 1964, he took up a new role at Himley Brick Co Ltd which was a subsidiary of Ibstock Building Products Group.
