The bridge at Baswich Lane in Stafford has been closed off in both directions for three days due to concerns that the burst pipe caused damage to its structure.

Since around noon on Wednesday, cones and a road closure sign has been in place at the roundabout with Cornwall Drive and on the other side of the bridge near Tilcon Avenue.

Residents living nearby also complained that their water supply had been affected while Severn Trent worked to fix the pipe, which a spokesperson said they are doing 'as quickly as possible'.

Baswich Lane bridge was closed for three days but will open with a one way system from this evening.

The announcement was first made by Stafford Borough Police, who wrote on Facebook on Wednesday: "Baswich bridges are closed both ways due to a burst pipe causing damage to the bridge. The closure will be in place for up to 3 days. Please find alternative routes."

Business owners in the area say they are losing footfall and called for signs saying they are open as usual.
