A plaque in memory of the late One Direction Wolverhampton star Liam Payne has been installed on a popular UK pier - where he shot a video.
The brass plaque has been placed on Clevedon Pier in Somerset where One Direction filmed their music video 'You & I' at the historic site back in 2014.
A representative for Clevedon Pier took to Facebook to announce the news last Friday (January 17): "We are pleased to share that there is now a plaque in memory of Liam Payne on Clevedon Pier[.] The beautiful plaque is inscribed with lyrics from one of Liam's favourite songs.
"We thought it was fitting that the Pier [paid] tribute to Liam's life due to his visit with One Direction many year[s] ago...."
The plaque features lyrics from one of One Direction's lesser known tracks 'Walking in the Wind': "If you're lost, just look for me/ You'll find me in the region of the summer stars".
Fans were touched by the gesture, with one person saying they would love to visit Clevedon Pier: "I have a tattoo of this quote [']You’ll find me in the region of the summer stars[']. I feel a connection with Liam and this place now, I need to visit it."
Another person wrote: "[I'm] sobbing. This is so sweet[.] I've always been a [Directioner], always wanted to go here, I'm definitely going now, you'll see me soon!".
The music video for 'You & I' was filmed in Clevedon and was a hit for the band, entering the top twenty in 2014 (#19). The song went Platinum in the UK, Canada, Australia and Denmark, with over 600,000 units sold in the UK alone.
Liam Payne was born at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton in 1993, the son of infant nurse Karen Payne and fitter Geoff Payne.
As a student, Payne was heavily involved in sports, particularly cross-country running. Payne joined the Wolverhampton & Bilston Athletics Club to pursue his running career. For three years he was ranked in the top three 1500m runners in the country within his age group.
Payne completed 11 GCSEs at St Peter's Collegiate School (now St Peter's Collegiate Academy) before moving on to study music technology at City of Wolverhampton College.
Liam passed away aged just 31 after falling from a balcony in Argentina last October. Since then, three people have been charged with manslaughter and two have been charged with supplying drugs.
