Muhammed Usman pleaded guilty to seven charges of sexual activity with a female with a mental health disorder and one charge of possessing indecent images of children during his trial at Birmingham Crown Court on January 15.

The 39-year-old, of Bloomsbury Street in Birmingham, was sentenced to 12 years plus five years extended on license, as well as being placed on the sex offenders register and handed a restraining order for life.

West Midlands Police said that the details of the offence by Usman had come to light in June last year after receiving a phone call which informed them that he had been caught abusing a vulnerable teenage girl.

The force said his phone was seized, with videos discovered that he had taken of the abuse which identified both himself and the survivor of his abuse.

Hirah Khan, from the Adult Complex Investigation team, said: “Usman took advantage of a vulnerable teenage girl for his own sexual gratification.

"We are pleased with the sentence which sends out a clear message that people who behave in this depraved way will be convicted and will spend many years behind bars.

“We are thankful to the survivor of his abuse and her family who helped us as we investigated right up to its successful conclusion.

”It is important to note that survivors of sexual abuse are protected by law and have life-long anonymity.
