The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board's (ICB) chief executive Peter Axon and its chief finance officer Paul Brown will be moving on in the summer.

In a joint statement they said it was time to move on as the board praised them for their service.

Mr Axon, who held the chief executive role for more than three years, said: “It’s been a tough decision to make to be leaving the ICB. I’ve been working in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent for the past six years and the wider NHS for 30 years, over half of that at board level.

“During my time I have been privileged to meet and work with some extraordinary people, genuinely wanting to make things better for the people we serve, leading in a compassionate and inclusive way. Values and behaviours that I have always held close.

"Although I will be leaving, I remain truly committed to what we as the ICB are planning to achieve.”

The board will start the search for his replacement in the coming weeks.

Finance boss Paul Brown said: “I have enjoyed a wonderful five years working here in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. I have made many life-long friends and I am proud of my achievements here.

“The new year is a time for reflection and I decided over the break that now is a good time to move on. I said to Peter that I want to work my full six months’ notice so that I can help ensure a good year end and the agreement of a plan for the next financial year.

"I will focus on working with my team and system colleagues to ensure that there is a strong legacy, so that the system can go from strength to strength in the future.

“My personal aim is to carry on working in the NHS on new projects with some fresh challenges. I have another three years before I retire and I hope and believe I still have a lot to give.”
