Wordsley born scientist Warren Skidmore, who has lived in the US since 2002, lost his house in Altadena leaving he, his wife and two daughters homeless.

They have been living in an Airbnb rental since the home was destroyed in the wildfires in the Eaton Canyon area earlier this month.

A gofundme page set up by colleague Frank Muno raised almost $50,000 in less than a week but the total is now up to $67.688.

Meanwhile, Dr Skidmore was part of the subject of a news report on California television station and featured in a report on the price gouging of wildfire victims by Airbnb rental properties

He was interviewed and was emotional when he said his two daughters Hannah and Tessa had lost their little havens and now they were being forced to pay inflated prices to stay in temporary accommodation.

He said: "The price went up week on week by 43.2 per cent. We have seen this with our own eyes, and scams as well which have been reported."
