Jim Bob, the former frontman of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine, will be making his first appearance at Wolverhampton Literature Festival to talk about "Where Songs Come From – The Lyrics and Origin Stories of 150 Solo and Carter USM Songs".

The book, which is Jim's (real name Jim Morrison) ninth book and his third work of music-related non-fiction, explains where songs that he wrote for Carter, as well as in his solo career, came from, looking at the origin stories of songs such as "After the Watershed", "Sheriff Fatman", "Twenty Four Minutes from Tulse Hill" and "Jo's Got Papercuts".

His appearance at the festival on Sunday, February 2 at Wolverhampton Art Gallery will see Jim talk to comedian and author Robin Ince about the book, which he said was as much a memoir as a look into his lyrical process.

He said: "The main thing about the book is that it's quite a big and fat book with 150 song lyrics in it from solo and Carter songs and the rest of it is how it started out, about where these songs come from and, originally, it was supposed to be how I write songs and what makes me write those songs.

"It's actually tended to be a lot more autobiographical and so there's a memoir in there as well as lyrics and some nice photos.

"I think it's definitely the case that I ended up writing about other things that were connected to the writing of the songs, because the truth can be quite boring when it's just you and one other person sitting in a room."
