Man left with serious injuries after falling into restaurant cellar in Oldbury

Emergency services rushed to a restaurant in Oldbury responding to reports that a man had fallen into a cellar.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a restaurant on Tat Bank Road, Oldbury, on Monday evening to reports that a person had fallen into the cellar of a building.

A fire engine from Smethwick and a fire engine from Wednesbury responded to the incident, with the first vehicle arriving within two minutes of being mobilised. 

On arrival, crews discovered a man who had fallen down a cellar of a restaurant.

Firefighters rescued the man from the cellar by using a rope pulley system, with West Midlands Ambulance Service paramedics proceeding to treat him for serious injuries. 

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "Shortly after 11.20pm on Monday 20 January, we responded to Tat Bank Road in the Langley area of Oldbury.

"A fire engine from Smethwick and a fire engine from Wednesbury responded, the first arriving at the scene within two minutes of being mobilised. 

"Fire crews were joined by a crew of technical rescue firefighters at the incident.

"This incident involved a man who had fallen down a cellar at a restaurant. 

"He was rescued by firefighters using a rope system. The Hazardous Area Response Team from West Midlands Ambulance Service were also in attendance, working with firefighters to support the rescue.

"The casualty is believed to have been conveyed to the Midland Metropolitan Hospital by paramedics for further treatment."

An ambulance, two paramedic officers and HART paramedics attended the scene. 

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to a commercial property in Oldbury at 10.05pm last night to reports of a patient who had fallen down a flight of stairs. 

"An ambulance, two paramedic officers and HART Paramedics responded to the scene. 

"A man received treatment on the scene for serious injuries. HART paramedics requested extrication assistance from fire colleagues due to the difficult location of the patient. 

"The man was conveyed to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further care."
