Perry Barr Rape: Man, 22, arrested in connection with attacks on two women

West Midlands Police have announced that a 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the rape of a woman in Birmingham

Emergency services rushed to the scene of Walsall Road at around 1.50am on Saturday after a woman was attacked near the One Stop Shopping Centre near the road. 

A short time later, officers received a separate report that another woman had been assaulted on Aldridge Road, near Holdford Drive, Perry Barr

West Midlands Police have now announced that they have arrested a 22-year-old man on suspicion of rape after visiting an address in the Birmingham area.

It is not yet known if the two incidents are linked, however, officers have said that they are 'keeping an open mind' as to whether the assaults are connected. 

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We’ve arrested a man aged 22 on suspicion of rape after a woman was attacked near the One Stop Shopping Centre on Saturday.

"We were called to Walsall Road at around 1.50am.

"A short time later, we received a separate report that another woman had been assaulted on Aldridge Road near Holford Drive."

An appeal for information into the attacks is still ongoing, with West Midlands Police asking anyone with information, particularly dashcam or mobile phone footage of the attacks to come forward.

West Midlands Police also gave advice on what to do if you have been the victim of sexual assault or rape. 

The police spokesperson added: "If you’ve been raped or sexually assaulted, we’re here for you. 

"More information on how we can help you and the organisations that can also help if you’re not ready to speak to us can be found here."
