'I drank strong cider to stop the voice in my head' man accused of murdering Wolverhampton woman tells jury

The man accused of raping and murdering Wolverhampton sex worker Helen Kempster has given evidence in his defence.

Miss Kempster, who was in her 40s, died hours after being found with catastrophic injuries in Kingsland Road, West Park in the early hours of June 16, 2022.

Rahul Sharma, aged 31, is on trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court for rape and murder and after two weeks of the prosecution case gave evidence in his defence on Wednesday (January 14).

Sharma is on remand in a secure mental health unit and has been flanked by nurses and prison guards in the dock.

Sharma, of Horden Road, Wolverhampton, told the jury he suffers with several mental and physical illnesses.
