The proposed 30-acre Kids' Village in Wychnor near Lichfield will  benefit for the fundraising efforts of staff at Ansons Solicitors over the next 12 months.

Ansons employees last year took part in sponsored events such as the Sutton Fun Run to raise cash for the project which is expected to cost at least £5 million for 10 lodges and communal facilities.

All funds raised will go towards the charity's work and its capital appeal to raise the funds needed to complete the UK’s first holiday village exclusively for critically ill children and their families to enjoy a free week- long break.

Kids’ Village chief executive Katrina Cooke says: “We’re thrilled that Ansons Solicitors have chosen us as their charity of the year. Their enthusiasm and generosity during 2024 have already had a positive impact, and we’re excited to see what we can achieve together in 2025.”

Away Resorts and Kids Village teams raised money for the charity doing a 'Costa Rica Challenge' in 2020.

Martin Jackson, a director at Ansons Solicitors, adds: “We are delighted to choose Kids’ Village as our charity of year. Ansons has taken part on a number of fundraising events in 2024 in aid of Kids’ Village and we very much look forward to another great year supporting this wonderful local charity.”

So far the charity has secured a major six-figure donation from a family trust towards the cost of building the first lodge accommodation and efforts are in hand to  to build the remaining nine.

Other businesses have also been contributing to the major appeal.

The scheme was pioneered seven years ago by Gary and Claire Fletcher whose daughter Sammie, aged 29, was diagnosed with cancer aged nine. The family were inspired by their visit to the Give Kids the World Village in Florida, United States, and decided to set up a similar centre here.

Last year an online appeal raised £4,340 with the help of 34 donors towards Claire's sponsored effort to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in aid of the building appeal.

In 2020 supporters from Away Resorts and Kids' Village raised money for the charity by taking part in a sponsored hike in Costa Rica.
