Fire crews led seven people to safety after blaze broke out at flat above West Bromwich barber shop - the second in days
Seven people were led to safety by fire crews after a blaze broke out above a barber shop in West Bromwich - the second in days.
A total of six fire crews were initially called to tackle the flames in Carters Green, near to High Street and off The Expressway, just before 10.10pm on Monday (January 13).
Writing to X, formerly Twitter, just after 11.10pm, West Midlands Fire Service urged people to avoid the area.
The blaze happened above Cuts and Fades barber shop, where owner Suraj was forced to cancel appointments and keep closed.
It damaged the "majority" of a second-floor flat above the business, parts of the roof and "most" of the first floor, a fire service spokesman said.
The spokesman added: "Seven people from neighbouring properties were led to safety as a precaution while crews in breathing apparatus and using hose reels extinguished the fire.
"They were allowed back into their homes at around 12.45am, once it had been confirmed that the fire had not spread to their properties and our resources were being scaled down
"...West Midlands Police was requested to help with nearby road closures. Engineers from Cadent and National Grid isolated gas and electricity supplies."
It is the second fire to have occurred above the barber shop within days.
On Saturday (January 11), fire crews were called to a blaze above the business, with buses diverted as they worked at the scene.
The shop was however said to be unaffected.
