West Bromwich man carrying loaded pistol in bag tried to 'gouge' police officer's eyes with key in struggle
A man who got into a fight with three police officers as he tried to resist arrest had a loaded pistol in a "man bag".
Khari Salmon was told at Wolverhampton Crown Court it was only by luck the gun did not cause serious injury during the struggle on a street in Rowley Regis.
As it was he used keys to injure the neck of one officer, with another suffering knee injuries.
The 20-year old was sentenced to nine years' custody for possession of a firearm at the time of committing an offence, and given concurrent sentences on eight other charges.
They included two of assaulting a police officer, possession of ammunition and possession of drugs with intent to supply.
The court heard Salmon, a man of previous good character, had become embroiled with a 'serious criminal gang' and had previously been shot by one of them, though not badly injured.
Police stopped Salmon in his Audi A6 on October 9 this year on Beeches Road, Rowley Regis, just after 11am.
