We asked Express & Star readers where they thought the region's best neighbourhoods are for people looking to buy their first home and we weren't short of thoughts - the majority of local residents love their hometown for the affordability, friendly neighbours, and access to main roads, shops and schools.

Responding to a Facebook post, 85 social media users who live in the area shared their opinions on where first-time buyers should consider when house-hunting and why. 

It is not unknown that young people are struggling to get on the property ladder due to increased cost of living and houses. 

The average age of a first-time buyer in the UK is 33 years old, which reflects the increasing difficulties that young adults face when saving for a home. 

But our readers have some great suggestions for areas with housing that is a bit more affordable than others. Here they are listed - but not in any particular order of one being better than the other.
