West Midlands Police is asking for help in locating a man officers believed had tried to pick up and take a young girl while she was outside a house in Leicester Street, Wolverhampton, at around 5.15pm on Thursday (January 9) with an older relative.

The man was stopped by the child's mother and is then understood to have left in the direction of Harrow Street.

Thankfully the child was not injured, with officers offering support to her and her family.

CCTV is being retrieved and reviewed and officers are speaking to people in the area as investigators continue house-to-house enquiries.

The suspect is believed to be mixed race, aged in their 20s or 30s and around 5ft 9in tall.

He was described as having short, curly dark hair, facial hair and brown eyes which showed signs of reddening.

Detective inspector Nicola Pestel of the Wolverhampton Criminal Investigation Department said: "We understand that this will be a shock for people, and our investigation to trace and detain the person involved is moving at pace.

"We'd ask everyone in the area to support us by coming forward with any information they may have, to check doorbell cameras or dashcams in their cars, for any footage which may assist our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with West Midlands Police via their 101 number or via the Live Chat service on their website.
