The Queens pub on Norton Road submitted an application to Walsall Council to amend its existing licence in order to provide more flexibility for private events or major sporting matches.

The existing licensing conditions allowed entertainment and alcohol sales until 12:30am on Fridays, but the pub’s application proposed extending that by an additional 30 minutes Monday to Saturday until 1am.

In its original application, the Marston’s Brewery pub requested to licence the sale of alcohol in the car park and to allow use of the beer garden until 10.30pm. Four objections were received from neighbours of the pub about the application.

But since the pub withdrew the requests relating to the car park and beer garden, three out of four objections had also been withdrawn ahead of the hearing on Thursday January 9.

The pub has been operated by Grace Billingham as the Designated Premises Supervisor since July 2021. It was heard that the pub has had a strong record of community engagement through fundraisers, supporting local football teams and local events including the Pelsall Carnival.

The committee noted that the pub has operated extended hours through temporary event notices in recent years without any issues.

In response to concerns submitted in the objections, the pub voluntarily agreed to several additional conditions. These include a commitment to record any noise complaints from residents, providing a contact number for complaints, and limiting the late trading hours to a maximum of 50 occasions per year.
