Around 20 firefighters battled flames at the unit at Spon Lane Trading Estate, off Spon Lane in West Bromwich, following reports of a fire on Tuesday night which was believed to have started accidentally.
West Midlands Fire Service said the fire spread to four cars and two vans and the roof space of the commercial unit was left heavily smoke-logged as a result.
A spokesperson said: "Shortly before 8.25pm on January 7 we responded to Spon Lane Trading Estate in Varney Avenue in West Bromwich.
"Three fire engines, a 4x4 brigade response vehicle and a hydraulic aerial platform initially responded, manned by around 20 firefighters from West Bromwich, Smethwick, Ward End and Oldbury stations.
"This was a fire inside a single-storey auto repair shop. The fire, believed to have started accidentally, affected four cars, two vans and the roof space. The unit was heavily smoke-logged."
A spokesman said firefighters wore breathing gear to extinguish the fire and isolated the electrics. They were also assisted by drone camera equipment.
The fire was contained in the garage.
The crews departed the scene shortly before 11.10pm before returning in the early hours of today (January 8) to check for hotspots, but none were found.
