Tributes lay at scene where 20-year-old died following a tragic collision

Tributes of flowers have been placed at the junction of Ettingshall Road and Bilston Road, where a 20-year-old died after the car he was travelling in collided with a wall on the road. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene after the fatal collision at 1.35am on Tuesday, with touching tributes of flowers being placed on the railings near where the crash took place.

Two ambulances attended the scene, as well as a paramedic officer and a critical care car from Midlands Air Ambulance, rushed to the scene, where they found a man trapped in a vehicle in critical condition.

West Midlands Fire Service firefighters used cutting equipment to free the man from the vehicle, however, sadly he was confirmed dead at the scene. 

A West Midland Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Ambulance staff arrived to find a car which had collided with a wall. 

"The driver, a man, was trapped and in a critical condition. 

"Ambulance staff worked with fire colleagues to rapidly extricate him from the car and commenced advanced life support. 

"Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, the man’s life couldn’t be saved."

Residents describe the sights and sounds following the crash, saying that there were 'there were lights everywhere'.

Salema Khan, 43, a resident of Bilston Road, said: " I heard a bit of a crash in the distance, but I didn't expect it to be so bad.

"I didn't realise that someone had died until I read the news, It's such a shame."

Amir Shota, 38, another Bilston Road, said: "We live quite close to where it happened. 

"I heard something that sounded like a crash and it woke my children up. 

"I couldn't see anything until the police turned up though, but when they did there were lights everywhere. 

"I didn't know someone had died until this morning. It's got to be horrible for the man's family.
