The building is listed  and dates back to the early 18th century - it is listed on the heritage trail of the town, with the website barmouth-wales.co.uk saying it was converted from cottages to become and leather good and hardware shop in the 20th century and painted in a vivid black and white timber frame effect during the 1930s.
