If approved, the former New Navigation Inn on Old Birchills could become nine one-bedroom apartments, nine two-bedroom apartments, a shared courtyard with four car parking spaces, a bike shed and a communal rooftop terrace.
The site is right next to Walsall Canal and is within the Walsall Locks Conservation Area. Running south along the canal are several locks climbing towards Walsall Town Centre, to the north is Birchills Junction where Walsall Canal meets Wyrley and Essington Canal.
Historically, the New Navigation Inn would have provided a rest stop for boatmen transporting goods. It later served as a public house for the local community until its closure around the time of the pandemic.
