The BMW X2 was taken from a property close to Cannock Road in Acton Trussell, near Stafford, on Sunday (January 5).

Police were called at about 1.35am to reports that a group of men had smashed the window of the home and taken the keys to the car.

The men got in the vehicle and drove it away, a Staffordshire Police spokesperson said.

The BMW was then spotted by officers on Holdiford Road in Stafford.

One of the men inside the vehicle allegedly ran to a Peugeot 208 that was parked up nearby and got into the passenger seat before it drove away.

The Peugeot was however stopped by police and a knife was discovered following a search of the three people inside, a force spokesperson added.
