In November, Childrensworld Newport applied for permission to change the use of Unit 4, the former Outdoor Focus store on the Mere Park Garden Centre site, in order to relocate and expand its childcare provision.
Plans include the creation of a first-floor level within the 485 square metre building and the creation of a 26-space car park and external play area.
If approved, the replacement nursery would have the capacity to accommodate up to 118 children ranging in age from 0 to 11 years old - up from its current capacity of 97. It would also lead to the creation of 10 additional full-time jobs, made available on a full and part-time basis - potentially increasing the number of staff from 23 to 40.
The scheme has been celebrated by parents, who have taken to Telford & Wrekin Council's planning portal to show their support.
In total, 26 residents expressed their support for the potential move, arguing a bigger site would improve access and parking. Many say the nature of the existing site's location is currently posing a risk to parents and children.
