Watch: Dramatic video shows firefighters battling large blaze at West Bromwich car scrapyard

A dramatic video shows firefighters working to extinguish a blaze that broke out at a scrapyard in West Bromwich.

Eight crews were scrambled to the scene on Phoenix Street, near the Black Country New Road, at about 5pm on Friday and remained there throughout the evening.

The bird's-eye video by John Staines shows smoke billowing into the night as firefighters hose down the large fire, which broke out at the Midlands Auto Breakers car scrapyard opposite the Robinson Brothers chemical manufacturers.

Roads were closed in the area while emergency crews worked to make the area safe. 

Just after 7.30pm, an update by WMFS said the crews were making good progress with extinguishing the fire and the resources were scaled down, with road closures being lifted.

Crews remained on the scene for the next few hours. 

Photos taken this morning showed the gates to the business open and old cordon tape from the night before, with no visible signs of damage to the business.
