The Environment Agency (EA) has said that enquiries into the leaking of around 4,000 litres of toxic sodium cyanide into a 12-mile stretch of Walsall Canal on Monday, August 12 last year, are ongoing.

Walsall Council declared a major incident as more than eight agencies jumped into action to contain the toxic chemicals and protect the local wildlife.

Following a preliminary investigation, Walsall-based metal finishing company, Anochrome Ltd, was identified as the source of the spill, with a wider investigation quickly being launched by the EA.

A dam has been placed around the affected areas of Walsall Canal
