Ten fire crews tackle 'severe' fire at waste plant in Aldridge - firefighters likely to be on scene for hours

Dozens of firefighters are tackling a "severe" blaze that has broken out at a waste plant in Aldridge.

Ten crews were sent to the scene at Biffa Waste Management in Westgate, after a call was received at around 1.45pm today (January 4).

West Midlands Fire Service has posted on social media to ask people to avoid the area. It said its crews would likely be working at the scene for "a number of hours".

The force said in a post: "We have 10 crews in attendance at a fire on Westgate, Aldridge, we will be there for a number of hours.

"As a precaution, if you live or work nearby, please keep doors and windows closed. Avoid the area, where possible."
