Lal Haveli was fined more than £20,000 after Walsall Council's environmental health officers made an unannounced visit on May 2, 2023, prompted by a complaint from a member of the public.
The Bradford Street restaurant is run by Tawa Place Limited and operated by Mr Abul Hussain, who is described on the business' website as being an award-winning chef.
Envrionmental health inspectors discovered rat droppings throughout the site including on the floor of food preparation areas, in the basement and on decorative drapes in the banqueting hall.
The kitchen was also found to be in an unclean state.
Pictures issued by Walsall Council shows grime coating the oven, while rat droppings can be seen on the curtains and holes visible in a packet of spaghetti.
The business was ordered to close but, after working with Environmental Health and a pest control contractor, was allowed to reopen on May 9, 2023.
The case was heard at Dudley Magistrates Court on December 18, 2024, where Mr Hussain pleaded guilty to food hygiene offences at Lal Haveli in Walsall.
He was fined £1,061 with victim surcharges of £424 and costs of £1,500, totalling £2,985. A collection order was issued for Mr Hussain to make the first payment within 28 days.
Lal Haveli, trading as Tawa Place Limited, was fined £16,660 with victim surcharges of £2,000 and costs of £1,643, totalling £20,303.
