Hundreds die from alcohol misuse in Black Country and Staffordshire
New figures show hundreds of people have died from alcohol misuse in Staffordshire and the Black Country.
The data from the Office of Health Improvement and Disparities show that 61 people died in Dudley in 2023 as a direct consequence of drinking alcohol compared to 68 the previous year.
In Wolverhampton 58 died in the same period compared to 56 the previous year. In Walsall the number of deaths remained the same at 42 in 2023 and 2022.
In Sandwell the number of recorded deaths dipped to 59 compared to 72 the previous year.
In Staffordshire there were 141 deaths compared to 116 the previous year.
