The bucket collection organised by Wednesbury railway worker Daniel Noon raised a total of £826.05 at Birmingham New Street on December 15.

The customer services assistant works at the station where he dressed up in a Father Christmas outfit along with friend Derrick Hall who wore an elf costume.

They got donations from rail passengers, colleagues and their relatives. The proceeds will go to the Ronald Mcdonald House Charities UK which provides accommodation for the families of patients at the city's children's hospital.

Daniel, aged 31, and who has Asperger's Syndrome, says: "The collection went brilliantly. I was given a present by a young child and a letter after their parent saw us collecting in the station which was really nice. It made me a bit tearful because that had never happened to me before in all the time I've been fundraising for charity.

"I was overwhelmed. We'd like to everyone for their contributions to the Santa collection and also to my Just Giving online collection page for the same charity."

In July he took part in a sponsored walk from West Bromwich to Birmingham city centre with friends Elliot Jones, Abida Tasnin, Phillipa Long and Elanor Neale which raised £907.
